What is the best way to train We have a 20 week old male
beagle that we want to train
to hunt rabbits. We have
bought rabbit scent and put it
on his favorite toy, and had
him search on the trail that
we left. However, he doesn't
seem to interested in
searching for it. We don't
have the option to run with
other trained rabbit hunting
dogs. We have taken him to the
fields to jump rabbits but he
looses interest quick. Does
anyone have any ideas on
training them? Anything would
help. Thanks!

i think he isnt inerested because hes so young. i think he is just descovering the world and you should give him a break for a while. dont get rid of him because he cant hunt rabbits!!! that would be like killing a human because they cant or wont eat a certain type of food. if you really want a hunter, go to a breeder and ask for her opinion if you want to add another dog to your family for hunting, i think they would get along fine because the dog you have now is so young. |

Stop by my website: http://www.tranquilacresrabbit ry.com/info_basiccare/doeorbuc k.asp Oh, if I had a dollar for every e-mail I got asking how to sex a rabbit, I'd be wealthier than Bill Gates! LOL. Just kidding. But seriously, this is a very common problem with newbie rabbit owners and breeders. Just how do you determine what gender your rabbit is? Well, I'm going to explain! First of all, let's get some terms out of the way: Buck - Male Rabbit Doe - Female Rabbit It's not a "girl" or a "boy" - it's Doe and Buck. Whether you're a pet owner, 4-Her or a breeder, please, learn to use the proper terminology. The sex organs are located down between the hind legs in the vent area. You'll need to flip your rabbit over in order to get a good view. Once the rabbit is on its back, either on a carpeted table, or nestled on your lap, locate the vent area. It will be above the tail, between the hind legs. The genitals are hidden between two folds of skin. With your forefinger and thumb, separate the skin towards the head and tail and apply pressure to make the genitals pop out. You'll see the anus and the sex organs (either a penis or a vagina) right above it. So - now that you've found the right "area" and you can see something sticking out, which is which? A buck will resemble a tube and a doe will resemble a loop or a slit. As the animals mature, the sex organs will change somewhat in appearance. (((See my website for photos))) Testicles are evident in the older bucks. Normally the testicles will drop at 4-5 months for small breeds and 6-8 months for larger breeds. Granted, sometimes you will get a buck who only drops one testicle, or doesn't drop at all. This isn't common, but it can happen - so don't rely on them when determining the sex of your rabbit. |

How can I get rid of rabbits Each year we get more and more
rabbits in the neighborhood
eating all the beautiful
flowers my neighbors and I
plant. Unfortunately, this
year, we have also found some
dead baby rabbits that my dog
must have killed. We have a
fenced in backyard and just
let our dog out. I have to let
the dog out as I don't have
time to walk her, but it's so
sad about the babies. What can
I do?

I am sure you can get something from the hardware store that will turn the rabbits away but not kill them, you might even find a plant that will keep them away, check the nursery.GOOD LUCK |

How long do rabbits that live My rabbits live in that

will they live for?

There's no way for anyone to really know that, since they all look pretty much alike. But they obviously live long enough to breed! |

What are some types of I am thinking of buying 2
female baby rabbits, and I'm a
sucker for lops! But I'm still
deciding, and would love a
list of domestic rabbit
species, preferably with
photos? LOL is that asking too
much?
I would like a rabbit that is
cuddly, but playful and not
too lazy. And is there a non
agressive type that doesn't
really scratch or bite? Is
that possible lol?

I have a mini lop and a lop-mix (no idea what she is), my mini lop is a very cuddly little girl and my other bun only likes you when she wants something. i think thats cos of their childhoods though (lop-mix's mumma was killed by a cat with babies around and wasnt handled as much cos she was sold to a petshop & my mini lop was handled a lot in her first few weeks, got her from a breeder and so shes very used to human contact). neither of them are agressive though. if you have a softness for lops, def go with lops - or get two diff breeds, try to get them around the same age and at the same time so that they bond easier. lop mix http://pics.livejournal.com/si ppycupp/pic/0000hyg1/g19 mini lop http://pics.livejournal.com/si ppycupp/pic/000074te/g8 |
