This may be outside the realm of your question, but make sure you write down all the questions you have for the recruiter so you remember everything and waste neither your time, nor theirs. Good luck to you in all you endeavors. |

Hello, Overseas recruitment is designed to supplement, but not replace, Australian domestic recruiting efforts. Overseas recruitment will permit the Australian Army's sponsorship of ex serving or serving foreign military personnel for service in the Army. Individuals will be recruited on the basis of their experience and/or skills in order to relieve shortfalls in Australian Regular Army personnel capability. Army will only sponsor the recruitment of ex serving or serving foreign military personnel for service in the Army. Foreign nationals who do not have prior military experience must apply for enlistment in Army through Defence Force Recruiting once they have satisfied normal Australian permanent residency requirements. Probably the 'Royal Corps Of Signals', 'Special Forces Signals Communications Division' or a 'Special Observer'. You can find info on all of these jobs on www.armyjobs.mod.uk |

My Navy Officer Recruiter I went on the navy website and
found the officer programs
recruiter, and when I spoke to
him he asked me basically 4
questions.
GPA, degree... blah blah, then
he told me to email him. I did
and then he sent back a long
email (which I read) that
indicated I needed to take the
ASTB.
This is all the guy did, I
feel cheated out of the
recruitment process, I'd like
to know if I will get a job in
the Navy, know about the
lifestyle, along with other
questions. And he just seems
to be content with telling me
I need to take the ASTB. I
actually went up there to
speak to him, and I was very
courteous however he still
seemed rather doe-eyed and
didn't really seem interested
in helping me out.
Any suggestions on what I
could do to find a recruiter
that would help me out.

Here's the deal. These recruiters are contacted everyday by a million people that want to Navy Officers. Most of them are not qualified at all to do so. He is cutting to the chase by first telling you need to take the ASTB. After he gets your results from the exam he will know better who he is talking to. Most people, even with degrees, do not score in the range to be accepted into the Navy and there is normally a long wait depending on the job you want. They also have huge regions that they work in all by their selfs so they get tired of driving 400 miles a day talking to people that just watched JAG or Top Gun or whatever. Their job sucks, but believe me if you can take and actually pass the exam he will tell you all you need to know and more. Is it right, maybe not, but you should be able to understand if you worked somewhere and your customers never had any money to buy the stuff you were selling but you got to tell them all about the product anyway. Be patient. Make an appointment to take the exam and see how well you do then take it from there. My recruiter was the same way and really didn't have much to offer me except being a navigator and I didn't want that. These guys are beat down so just go along with things until you get your exam results back. If he still sucks then ask to talk to someone else, but even then that person will be several hundred miles away from you. Good luck. |
