What's the difference betweenthe Holocaust and theGenocides of the nativeamericans and australians?
Other than the facts that in the Holocaust only 1/3 of the Jews were killed whereas in the Native American and Native Australian genocides 95% were killed. If there isn't a difference, then why do Americans(and all anglo-saxons) talk so righteously and proudly as if they are better than the nazis. I'm awaiting your ranting on how they are different.
I REALLY hate "comparing genocides"...all genocide is evil. Genocide is an attempt to obliterate a people. Each of those groups mentioned still have people actively working and hoping to eliminate them. Methods change, but they have not stopped. Each of those groups are still under assault today and Perhaps if history and sociology includes the topic of cultural and religious identity theft, tragedies of the past may be averted from repeating themselves in new forms. The Holocaust and Trail of Tears weren't allowed or committed *only* by insane, "evil" people, but by regular people, like your neighbor and mine who justified evil because they believed propaganda telling them it had a legitimate reason to happen. The emerging myth of the noble savage whose ways were twisted helped to justify "saving" the "dying" Indian "race" in those reservations combined with the myth of them as so savage they needed to be confined to become "civilized" ..so they looked the other way. A deeply Christian Europe looked the other way when the Jews who "rejected Jesus" were being punishedcollectively as they were told repeatedly in many speeches and edicts . The real "Jewish problem" is that the very existence of Jews threatens the validity of the claim their NT replaced the eternal law of Torah. The fact is there are many more similarities than many want to admit or others have a clue. There are also other differences that people may not know about. I see several misconceptions as well. I just don't think it benefits any people who have felt the tragedy of genocide to try to have a debate over which one is worse. That is appalling to me. Genocide is an attempt to do away with a people, whether it is a nation group or a religious group, it is evil..period. There is also genocide going on TODAY in Darfur. Where is the outrage across the airwaves? Did you see anything in the national media today about it? I didn't. Brief blurbs appear once in a while..but is that enough? There were millions of First Nations indigenous peoples, whole cultures have been destroyed since the first Europeans arrived to the shores of North and South America. There was willful attempt to kill off the North American native populations that continued into the twentieth century and apparently from what my Native friends have shown to me, in some places, it continues today.. The Spaniards began their conquests in bloodshed, but their methods of destroying the Indians was primarily in how they hijacked their history, culture, religion and every aspect of their heritage. Now they are “Latina” and “Hispanic”, yet when you look into the eyes of many, there is the spirit and soul of a Native American buried within whose ancestral past is lost beyond the past few hundred years of European conquest. I cannot but wonder why there is not greater desire for them to hold to their Native past rather than to the customs and culture of their conquerors. The fact that the United States was so effective in the genocide to so many Native nations was not lost on Hitler who ordered Himmler to study how the United States government had done these things, to better aide them in enacting the “Final Solution” to the Jewish people. There is no way one can deny the fact that there has been genocidal attempts to the Native American Indians. For some nations, they were “successful” in their evil endeavor. Others were so decimated and scattered, their survivors have little left of their culture and language to maintain. Six million Jews, more than a third of the world's Jewish population and more than half of Europe's Jewish population disappeared in less than ten years, but people ignore that there had been waves of Jew killing and persecution going on for several decades before the Nazi's steeped it up to their "Final Solution". I am awaiting to see just what you think YOUR rant here will accomplish to say " only" 1/3 of the Jews were killed BTW..that THIRD only counts those killed in the ten year period they called the Holocaust, it does not include the countless and uncounted Jews killed in the 40 years prior to that time that culminated with such a massive immigration of Jews to the US in the 1880s that strict quotas LIMITING our arrival were created and whose presence ensured the deaths of some of those millions who could not flee to the US edit: I must address salishlady..while I wholeheartedly agree that EDUCATION and honesty is so imperative to halt and prevent genocides, she reveals that she has fallen prey to a false claim that has been used to deflect that it is the elimination of the legitimate State of Israel that is behind the propaganda calling the Israeli/Palestinian conflict a genocide against Palestinians when she claims ".Genocide...look at Palestine..what is happening to those poor people?Genocide...why is it allowed to happen?" That false claim that Israel has been perpetrating a genocide on the Palestinians has NO basis in fact. The Palestinian population has increased SIX fold in the past 60 years. Between 1967 and 1993 there was an unprecedented rise in the standard of living in both Gaza and the West. When the Oslo accords were signed and the PLO took over administration of the territories, the standard of living stagnated. After the Palestinians initiated the violence in 2,000 the standard of living plummeted. Palestinian Arab misery is due to the corruption, irresponsible behavior and incompetence of their own leadership. The struggles for power between Fatah and Hamas alone have directly victimized and killed thousands of their own. The 22 Arab Muslim nations that surround Israel and the charters of Hamas and the PLO calling for the elimination of Israel are a much more apt comparison to the corrupt manner of the larger entity attempting to do away with the existence of a nation people through every means possible whether physical assault or propaganda. **The West Bank and Gaza have experienced one of the world’s highest rates of population increase over the past 60 years, increasing from 1 million in 1948 to over 6 million. The United Nations World Health Organization and the Palestinian Authority confirm dramatic improvements in Palestinian health and living standards over the past 40 years since Israel captured these territories in a defensive war. Despite the difficult situation existing in the West Bank and Gaza, the average lifespan has increased from 48 in 1967 to 72 in 2006. Infant mortality has declined from over 100 per 1,000 live births to under 23 according to the most recent data. Literacy among young Palestinians has become nearly universal, higher than any Arab country. This, and much more data, are readily accessible in reports published by the United Nations World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.** The attendance in secondary schools in Gaza and the West Bank is over 40 percent. My home state of Arkansas has slightly less than half that percentage and we are not in refugee "camps". **While discrimination against minorities requires constant vigilance in all countries, including Israel, religious minorities in Israel are free to openly practice their religion without fear of persecution and are able to participate in unfettered free elections.** Is there evidence that genocide is being done by the US govt to Iraq? Genocide is the attempt to obliterate a people. Is the claim here that the US has an agenda to kill all Iraqis? Or is it that people are in the crossfire of corporate greed and big oil backed by governments? If you misuse the very term of genocide for any political purpose to protest violence, then you have also fallen prey to the types of propaganda used to perpetrate real genocides. The widespread media campaigns to delegitimize the State of Israel out of existence by claiming that it is committing "ethnc cleansing" and genocide itself is an atrocious form of hate that deflects real accountability from the people who have kept the Palestinians as political pawns for several generations now. Populations do not INCREASE dramatically in a genocide!
What happened to the mormonsduring the holocaust?
im a mormon and we r learning about the holocaust and i wuz wondering if anything happened to them because many people had to suffer for their religion. thx :D oh okay thanks so much guys :D
The Holocaust took place in Europe...where there were not many Mormons, if any at all. So unless there were issues with Mormons being drafted in the US army, then there was no real direct connection between the Mormon religion and World War 2 and/or the Holocaust. LDS has been baptizing deceased Jews, including Holocaust victims, and the Jewish community has asked that they stop.
How were Jewish people blamedduring the Holocaust?
How and what for were the Jewish people blamed for during the Holocaust?
Well it started like this: Germany was going through a really hard time with their economy. People were loosing jobs, but alot of Jews in Europe were well off and had enough money. So they were blamed. Then there came Black Death, which was a period of time where tons of Europeans were dying and nobody knew why. (it was because of poor hygene) not as many Jews were dying because they had better hygene and were less prone to get sick. There was anti-semitism (hate for Jews) long before Hitler. Before Hitler came to power, he was making speeches. He had good charisma skills so it was easy for him to get people to follow him and his ideas. He knew he had to blame Germany's bad times on something, so he blames the Jews, just like people have been doing since the beginning of time. This is what humans do. When people dehumanize other people and stop seeing them as humans, things get out of hand and genocides like the Holocaust happen, killing millions of innocent people. (i tried to put that in the simplest way possible, but there's SO much more to it..)
What was the German reactio tothe Holocaust?
In the world war two holocaust led by the germans, what was the reactio of the ordinary german people.
It depends who you ask... Many were disbelieving Some were scared of repercussions Others were afraid their involvement or complacency would be found out Most were ashamed it had happened
Why did the European Jews notmobilize to resist during theHolocaust?
The Holocaust is one of the worst tragedies in human history. Why was there not more resistance by the intended victims? I know the Jewish people love God and respect his commandments, but in a situation like the Holocaust; they would have been justified in fighting back. Please know I do not blame the victims; they were innocent of any crime!
It was all about baby steps. Hitler would take one small step--say, deny Jews the right to German citizenship--then step back and wait a bit. After awhile, he'd take another baby step--perhaps this time he would require the Star of David be worn. Then he sit back and wait a bit. By the time the big picture could really be seen, and these baby steps had added up, it was too late to do much; the Jews were, for the most part, already engulfed in genocide. The baby steps were like dust; you don't notice a particle of dust here and there gathering on a shelf, but one day you look up, and the thing's filthy. Many Jews did fight back, but they were outnumbered, out-armed, and out-organized. Also, they were fighting on the defensive, and the attackers usually have the advantage. Their religion really had little to do with their resistance efforts; they each did what they could. Elaborate steps were also taken to hide the true goal from the Jews. Concentration camps were in Poland rather than Germany. Prisoners being taken to the camps were told to label their luggage so they would be able to get it back when they arrived. Many were even told to write postcards to family members, letting them know how they were doing. The Germans took great pains to hide the details of the Final Solution from the Jews, right up to the last seconds of their lives when possible; if prisoners knew they were going to the slaughter, they were much harder to manage, so the Nazis wanted them kept calm and ignorant.
