Why do we have to bow down tothe Bishop?
I am raised in an Episcopalian household. I went to a ceremony for acolytes once with my friend (a super religious friend) and part of it was we had to bow down to the bishop. Why? Aren't you only supposed to bow down to Lord or Jesus?
I'm Catholic, and we do NOT bow down to the Bishop (although there are some ceremonial aspects to audience with the Pope). I would imagine that you bow to your Bishop because he is the leader of your church. It's like when people bow down to kings or queens. I can't imagine that it is for any reason other than respect and ceremony. If it makes you uncomfortable though, don't be afraid to ask the leaders of your church. You should always be seeking the truth, wherever that leads you. I'm sure it will be a perfectly benign answer.
Can a catholic preist from thediocese become a bishop?
If he's just from the diocese and not belonging to any religious order. Or would you need to be part of a religious order. How much more does a bishop need to study? Serious answers please. -Thanks and much love Armando
<> Sure he can. <> As far as I know, it's not possible to be a priest and not belong to an order and/or diocese. <> Priests and bishops are highly educated, many with more than one masters or doctorate degrees in various aspects of theology. How well they put all this knowledge into practice, and pass that wisdom onto others has something to do with why a particular priest is chosen - among many - to become a bishop.
What is the area a Bishoprules called?
I'm typing up a research paper for a friend as she doesn't have a computer and I'm wondering what this word is. The word in quotes is the one I don't know... The area over which a bishop rules ic called the "diorcese" . I really don't think that's what the word is though. Can someone please tell me what it is!
The area over which a bishop rules is indeed called a Diocese. Although you can use 'bishopric', that term is more often used to describe the office of the bishop as opposed to the geographic area of his control. The archbishop governs an area called archdiocese.
