There are many ways for 12-15 year olds to legally earn money. Some options include... Babysitting, Rake leaves, Pet-sitting (during the holiday's is a great time because a lot of your neighbors may be going out of town and need somebody to look after their pets), If you live a area where it snows you can shovel the neighbors driveway and walkways, if you are good in a certain subject in school you may ask around sometimes parents would like a tutor for their smaller children who struggle in certain subjects at school, or ask your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles if they have any extra chores or work you could do for them for extra money... A very good start to making money at 12-15 is just asking your neighbors (only if your parents say it is okay) if they have any extra work around the yard or house that you could do to earn a little extra money. When I was 13, my next-door neighbor was an elderly lady who needed help with cleaning her house because she had a difficult time with some of the cleaning since she was getting older, but it was to expensive for her to hire a housekeeper. A lot of children around my neighborhood now ask if they can rake leaves or shovel snow because even if they have a groundskeeper, they usually don't come out just to rake the leaves and definitely not to shovel the snow. Plus a lot of neighbors are nice and would love to help the kids in the neighborhood make some money and give them something productive to do with their time. Hope this helps you! Good luck! |

For your first time in USA you might consider a coach tour. Titan are the best (I assume you are in the UK) they pick you up and drop you off on your doorstep and they arrange everything. They have a wild west tour for the John Wayne style cowboy fan and also a National Parks tour which takes in the Litttle Big Horn and the Crazy Horse memorial. If you want to drive yourself then still check out the tour brochures and use them for you intinerary |

During what years did the I'm designing a character and
looking for a period of time I
can chuck the date of birth
between.
During what years did the
American Old Wild West really
happen?
I mean the sort of
saloon-door, jails with big
metal bars, wanted posters,
cattle rustling era. xD

The American 'Wild West' period extended from about the 1820's to the 1870-1890s with the highlight being in the mid 1840's with the mass exodus east known as Manifest Destiny. It stayed isolated during the Civil War, as most states didn't participate, even though there was a mixture of pro- and anti-slave states (California being one of the slave states, interesting huh?). The 'wild west' tapered off in about the 1870's with the completion of the Transcontinental Railway. However, the image of the West stayed prominent until the 1890's. It was about that time that automobiles started to make their way West. While the West was tamed with the railroads, the cattle trails (Texas, through Oklahoma into Kansas) did continue sparcely up until the 1890's. The Chisolm Trail ended in about 1887. |

A "marshall" was a Federal ageant; a "sheriff" was the "local law", also Pinckerton Ageants were used on the Railroads to insure safety of gold shipments and the Mail. Texas had the "rangers". They were like a State Trooper, today. |

The Old West?
What lessons are to be learned
from the American Old West?
How do popular portrayals
differ from reality?
Is it a viable thesis to
compare the Chivalric ideals
of the rough and tumble middle
ages with those of Frontier
America?

I suppose you already know that the gunfights were seldom face downs in the street. Most pistoliers would have used any option to kill their opponent before they could kill them. The cowboy wasn't always a white man, often he was an African American, a Mexican American or a native American. The period of the cowboy era is only from about 1866, when Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving took their herd from Texas to the railhead in Kansas, to about 1880 or 1890, when the drives were much shorter because rail lines were much nearer and it doesn't pay to run the weight off your steers. The comparison to the Chivalric ideals of the middle ages might be a good one if you remember that those ideals are just that, ideals, something one would strive for, but not necessarily attain. You could try thinking of Chivalry as a diet of good manners, entered into with the best of intentions, but not always easy to stick to. |
