Did they have insurance in theOld American West? Movies showbanks going out of businessand horse rustllers
being lynched. Why would that happen if banks and horses were covered by insurance?
They weren't insured. There wasn't insurance - it didn't become popular in the US, until the early 1800's - and then, only in cities & towns, on buildings, for FIRE LOSS. You used to pay your premium, then you'd get a "firemark" emblem to hang on the front of your house. If you had the emblem, you'd get priority for firefighters.
In The old West, FEMALE IndianScalps were Worth More Thanthe MALES. Why?
In the old American west it was common place for cowboys to take the scalp of the Indians they killed. Whether on the battle field , in ambush, or raiding an Indian village. However, it was common knowlege that female Indian scalps always brough more money. I never did understand Why? Does any know why?
The female scalps would have been harder to get than the male scalps, since the females would have been better-protected. So, if you got a female scalp, that would indicate you had won a greater victory; hence the female scalp was worth more. Just my guess.
American old west??
Can anyone give me any ideas for an old western based short story? thanks in advance!
How about a fictional story in which the main character is made up but the people in the background really lived. You can start with an imaginary character who was with the Rogers & Clark Expedition in 1804. This was the beginning of American's real history in the West. His life can follow some of the real histories. He returns to the West afterward as a "mountain man" who guides newcomers over the trails to new settlements in the West. His life spans the opening of the West after the Civil War, the coming of the railroads, the rise of the cattle trails to railheads like Wichita, the silver and gold rushes, the era of the cowboy. etc. The most fascinating part of the story would be blending your imaginary main character with the real life characters who existed, like Jim Bridger, Buffalo Bill Cody, Wild Bill Hikkok, Wyet Earp, Jesse James, etc. The novelist James Michener used this formula for many of his books. I hope trhat this has been a help to you.
If Jesus was in the AmericanOld West?
would he have been shot as a horse thief? Or maybe hanged? Luke 19:30
Probably. It has a whole lot less of a feeling of sacrifice than a crucifixion, but, hey that's what Resurrections are for.
