Online Divorce?
I am currently separated and wanting to get a divorce. One of my friends, who is also separated, told me about quickie online divorces where you dont need a lawyer. I looked up the info, it cost under $300 to download the paperwork, you fill it out, take it to the courthouse for a judge to stamp....and thats it! I want to make sure this is legit, I have been with my husband for over a decade, we are in the midst of selling our house, and we have 2 kids together. I was wondering if anyone else has done this before? If so, what website would you recommend, was it fairly easy to do, ect. ect? Thanks-- As a response, yes I do realize that its a sad thing that you can divorce with such ease....BUT, if not, you would just be spending thousands of dollars on a lawyer, not to mention precious time. I know that I do not want to make things work with my husband, after 11 years together he lost 3 jobs in the past year due to drugs--even after drug rehab. The little money we had left in the bank, he spent it on himself and left me with nothing. I have no job, I was a full time student and mom....now I am busting my butt looking for work. Now that he has moved in with his parents, he is not even helping me with the house to get it prepped for sale, I am doing it all on my own. After the sale of the house, I have nowhere to go. He is never nice to me now that I want a divorce, unless he wants me to do something for him...then he manipulates me! We have gone through a lot of ups and downs for the past decade....but now, I am done!
oh wow I have never heard of this before so I just did a quick search and opened up the first link... if you go here: http://www.completecase.com/ and scroll down a bit on the left side you can get some links to media links about their website. I thought it wouldn't be legit but it sounds like people can really do so. its kind of sad in a way too, though, that divorce can be so easy. I mean, yes, many people should get divorced... but many people also just might be able to save their marriage with counseling.... yet divorce always seems to be too easy of a solution for so many... (I am not speaking about you... just generally) ************************ Edited ************************ I wasn't speaking about your situation specifically... just in general.. I am sorry for what your husband did and is doing to you... he is an a**
Can I seriously suggest you consult a lawyer. You speak of putting the house up for sale and you have no-where to go when it is sold. You have 2 kids together, so that makes the situation a little more complicated than just a divorce. If you see a lawyer, there is a strong possibility that the house may not have to be sold because of the children. A judge can order that you and the kids are to stay in the house. In a lot of cases the first consultation with a lawyer is free. Why not make a few phonecalls and see what your options are.
An on-line divorce may not be for you. Consider legal custody of the children. Consider that your husband might try to make things messy. Consider that if the children are to be in your custody then the court will probably let you have the house. It is up to you but I think it is in your best interests to find an attorney. Good luck..
