Wondering why you can't IM on your existing Laptop. Unless it does not belongs to you, of course ! Although it sound ridiculous but buying a netbook might be a good option as it is small and usually the basic set does not come with any Optical Drive on it ( So its very light ) Hope this helps. |

You don't need a fancy laptop. You can probably get one from your local charity shop for next to nothing for what you need. Look around. Mention it to friends - there are probs lots of people who have old machines they are not using. Advertise in your local shops. (I have a crud machine which I top up with the pop charts for my grandkids. Given it) Good luck. |

If you are planning to use a laptop only for IM chatting, then you don't really need high tech computer. My recommendation is an Acer Aspire One. It's a small laptop that is great for IM. It has a built in webcam, WLAN card, SD memory card reader(2), Microsoft Office 2007, so it's great. You can buy it at Walmart for about $375. Worth every pennie |

You could buy a netbook. Netbooks are suitable for web application and mobile computing. Smart Phones also have the capability to access IM environments. |
