Car Insurance?
My fiance does not have his
license because he was caught
driving without insurance
(forgot to pay it!). He has to
pay the state a fine (done)
and then get an SR-22 and
insurance before he can get
his license back.
How can you get insurance if
you do not have a car to get
insurance on? (He would be
driving vehicles at his job,
which is why he needs his
license). He can't get
insurance on my car with me,
because my car is registered
in my mother's name and is
insured by her, I'm just on
her policy.
He has to get insurance before
he can get his license.
So his work insurance for
driving vehicles wouldn't work
for that because with an SR-22
you have to keep your
insurance policy current for 3
years straight. (He is leaving
this job in 5 months because
we are moving, thus he would
be without insurance again
when we moved and lose his
license again.) I cant see his
boss wanting to pay for the
extra insurance on him either
since it will obviously be
high with the SR-22.
And I don't think you can buy
a car if you don't have a
license in the first place??
We can't afford another car
and his insurance (because I
am sure it will be ALOT! He's
male, under 25, and needs an
SR-22)
We are not yet married. Once
we are, we will get on one
policy with the car.
The insurance company knows
where the car is, we had to
pay extra for it since I am in
another state.

SR-22 has three classifications : Operator's Certificate Owner's Cetificate Operator's-Owner's Certificate His classification would be Operator's Certificate which is for driving a non-owned vehicle. Progressive Insurance is but one of many companies that covers S-22. Good luck. |

As another poster stated there are different kinds of SR 22 filings. In most states he would be able to buy the Non-Owners SR 22. Since SR 22's are more expensive than a regular policy I would suggest checking with an independent insurance agency. There will be able to give you price quotes from 2 to 6 different companies then you can pick the least expensive policy. |

If your mom has you insured under HER policy and the vehicle isn't kept in HER house - then once the insurance finds out, they can cancel the policy or deny a claim. There is no reason why you can't add your husband to her policy. Unless mom doesn't want him, but you can just pay her the extra amount. You insurance should already know about him, since martial status is required information for insurance. Or, transfer the registration to your own name and get your own policy. Finally, your hubby can do a "named operator" policy with an sr-22 bond. Contact a local agent. |

first, the people saying he has to buy a vehicle are incorrect. You can obtain a policy that is called a named non-owner policy which is basically a policy just for this scenario. The easiest thing would be to get him added to your mother's policy if she's willing. The downside would be if she is in a "preferred" company, his SR22 and suspension will probably cause her to be nonrenewed. |

I would suggest a non owners sr22 filing. However it will not cover your car, but it will meet the DMV requirements to get your fiance's license reinstated |
