arcade games?
I am trying to remember this
arcade from the eighties, two
of them actually. The first
was a really cool game where a
samari jumped from tree to
tree, he had to save his woman
or something. One of the
enemies was wearing the disk
straw hat, kind of like raiden
from Mortal. He spit fire and
always killed me. The second
game was a jungle man that had
to swing from rope to rope. he
had a knife and had to kill
crocs. Also, underwater he had
to hold his breath, it was on
a timmer. If you have any idea
what these two games are,
please let me know. Another
cool game was called kicker. I
like to get an emulator of
these games if at all
possible. Thanks a lot. J.T.

The first game was "The Legend of Kage" by Taito. You can check out some screenshots of the game at the link I've given you. One of them has your fire-breathing monk in it. The first person who answered you was right about the second game. It is Jungle Hunt. Or you might have played it as Jungle King. It was originally Jungle King, and your character was a Tarzan-like dude, but they changed your character to an explorer and renamed it Jungle Hunt after the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate threatened to sue them for copyright infringement. The gameplay was identical for both versions, though. All three games are emulated by MAME; you can get the program at www.mame.net (though I personally recommend the MAME32 version if you're running Windows - it gives you a nice GUI to run the program with instead of having to launch it from the "run" box - MAME32 is available from http://mame32qa.classicgaming. gamespy.com/). You have to install MAME, and then find the roms for each game you want and download them to the "Roms" subdirectory of your MAME folder (create it if you don't have it). It'll read the zip file straight from the directory; you don't have to unzip it. I don't know where to find roms anymore though; all the distribution sites I used to frequent closed down a long time ago. You'll have to do a google search for those, but I'm sure they're around. Or, if you'd like to obtain those games legally, they are part of the "Taito Legends" (Jungle Hunt) and "Taito Legends 2" (Kage) collections that have been released for PC, XBox, and PS2. You'd get both of those games and about 65 others too by buying both sets. Hope that helps! |
