2001 Toyota Land Cruiser - I recently noticed a wobbly
feel in what appears to be the
right front tire on my Land
Cruiser. It feels like the
wheel wants to fall off when I
am driving. It isn't terribly
bad to the point that I don't
feel safe driving it...but it
is an uncomfortable feeling.
The tire doesn't appear to
move a bit when the LC is
parked and I try to wiggle it.
I haven't done anything new
recently like brakes, tires,
rims, or anything like that. I
did notice it looks like one
of the weights fell off inside
of the rim...but it doesn't
feel like an out of balanced
tire. It has about 75,000
miles and no other problems
really. What could it be?
Should I be worried about
driving it?
Forgot to note...all lug nuts
are tight. Tires have approx
10k miles & appear in perfect
condition. Tire pressure is
also correct (I check often).

As silly as it may sound - take a lug wrench to the lug nuts and make sure they are tight. The weight of the car may be preventing the tire from moving around when parked. Jack that corner of the car up and make sure the nuts are all tight. If they are, then you got a suspension problem of some sort - perhaps a ball joint, perhaps something with the steerring linkage. Losing a ball joint at highway speed is a dangerous thing, so I would recommend that if it isn't something as simple as loose lug nuts, then you really should have a qualified Toyota mechanic inspect the front end. |

The weights are gone so get the tires rotated and balanced if this is not it you can at the same time have the guys at the tire shop see if anything else looks bad. Its free at most shops to do the check but not fix unless they can. You may have also hit few to many curbs and bent the rim and it can be bad enough to feel like the tire is going to pop off. you also can have to much air in tires that makes the vibrating really bad with the weights off as well. So get them checked out its not much to do at all. |

the rubber bushing near the axle might be torn and sands got into it. good luck hope you find and fix the problem soon. take care! |

I had a wobble similar to this, it felt like the right front tire was the problem but I could not find anything wrong. as a last resort I had a friend drive the truck down the highway and when she felt the wobble she stayed at that speed, I was in my other car and rode next to her to watch what the tires were doing on the roll. It turned out to be a broken belt in one of the rear tires. my right rear tire was bouncing instead of running smooth down the road. that missing weight could definitely do that. have all the wheels balanced |

its probably the wheel weights that fell off that caused the wobble...its quite pretty annoying to have a wobbly tire, it suddenly swerves,,,causing me to hit road debris like big wooden blocks, from cargo trucks, my wheel weights too got scraped by gravel lodged in the rims of my 94 pajero, it became wobbly, plus i have to make a camber adjustment bcoz my pirelli scorpion tires have prematurely worn out, |

have the ball-joints checked. could also be that the tie-rod needs to re-adjusted. it may have a broken or cracked spring. good luck! |

Suspension is nothing to play around with. If it fails you will be a in an accident. Check your ball joints, tie rods, bushings, look for a bent rim, and get the wheels balanced. |

With one of the weights falling off i would think that it might affect it. I would bring it in and tell them the problem and have them check it out. It also might be a bad wheel bearing. |

I had problems like this with my older Mazda, and the tires were wearing out really quickly to and making weird humming and rubbing sounds, and I finally had all four bearings replaced, and it ran (rolled anyway) like a new car. I also had to replace the shocks, which will wobble too if they are shot. Then new tires. |
