How often is the gay men What percentage of gay men are
the stereotype? I mean limp
wristed, effeminate, wear
bright clothese, talk with
lispths, and love the disco,
and Cher.
My dad is completely the
opposite, and he's gay.

The better way of presenting this stereotype is, if you're limp wrist-ed, effeminate, wear bright clothes, talk with lisps, - then 99% chance you're a homosexual. |

Prolly 45%-60% I know some just like that and some the opposite. |

It's not true at all. There are probably 90% of gay guys that are "normal"... I definatly am, and I'm pretty gay. lol. Most guys think they have to act like that to attract other guys, and I think that is where the whole, "gay guys are permiscous" thing comes into play... But you either have to talk about d/cks alot or wear bright tight clothes... and it's easier to do one than the other. xD |

That percentage is only true on TV. Just like every Hetro we have different likes and dislikes and mannerisms. Say hello to your dad. That is the kind of man i like. Older and wiser. |

What you need is an understanding of "Camp". You know a lot of us put that whole "thing" on don't you ? Percentage wise there are all ways going to be some effeminate guys. I'll wager most of 'em are straight. Put your sympathy with them. I really don't know how they pull it off. God bless 'em. For the rest of us honest fags. Well. I just don't know what to say really. Its an honest response to oppression. Turn the sexual power dynamic on its head. That sort of thing. I know its kind of political. But its also kind of fun. Subversion is that way you know. |

Shoot, you're feeding my looming fear that MY dad could be gay. Anyways, that's probably true about 3/4 of the time. |

Well a stereotype applies to ALL of the individuals in the group that it is being applied to. So a stereotype is always 100% untrue. |

I like track, swimming, and soccer; I listen to Rock, Alternative, and Pop; don't really know what the disco's like, don't have a lisp, I wear black, white, gray, navy blue, and some other colors but nothing bright usually, I'm not limp-wristed either. The only thing I see that makes me different is that I don't get into watching sports. I figure I'd rather go out and do it rather than watching somebody else score a touch-down, and I'm into art too. I'd say the reason people don't notice that most gay guys look/act normal is because they fit in just as well as straight people. :] Something to mull over I suppose. |

Well, to be honest with you the majority of gay men that I know do not fit into the stereotype as they are the complete opposites. I think the stereotype actually is only a minority of the gay men out there. |

To answer this honestly we would have to get everyone to honestly tell you what their orientation is. Many people who are in the closet act overly-masculine to try to hide any effeminacy which might make them look gay. On the other hand heterosexuals sometimes do the same thing. In my experience though most gay men do not fit the stereotype, and this is coming from someone who is very active in the gay community. Some may follow one or two stereotypes though but then again, many heterosexuals have one or two gay stereotypes of there own. I'd say less than 25% of gay men do fit stereotypes but it may sometimes seem like more because unless they tell you, you may not realize that many people you meet are gay at all. Most people who don't know me think that I am straight and do not know unless I or someone I know tells them. |

I don't know _anyone_, even very nelly guys, who have a lisp and do the limp wrist thing. More straight people go out dancing than do gay people. Look at straight men and the huge range of behaviors - crunchy hippies, steroid-using guidos, metrosexuals, slobs, nerds, etc. The same range is there in gay men, why wouldn't it be? |

I don't have limp wrists...I'm not too effeminate...I don't wear bright clothes...I don't talk with a lispth...I've never been to a disco and I don't think I would like it...I'm not too crazy about Cher. :p I just like guys. |
