If stereotyping is wrong and If stereotyping is wrong and
largely inaccurate, why does
the marketing industry
continue to stereotype so
effectively and without
objection from the PC crowd?

stereotyping is not a bad thing. It's only a bad thing when it's actually wrong. As to answering your question about the marketing industry, when has the marketing industry really played by all the rules? People believe in what they see. It is actually really easy to manipulate people's thoughts. It's actually so easy that people couldn't believe it. |

Because there is often a small basis in truth when it comes to stereotypes. Where do you think they get their start? LOL That said, a few stereotypes are crap, like the "all men are rapists" one perpetrated by the radical fems. That's a load. But some of them - like, "women are nags" or "men are bears with furniture" - have a bit of truth to them. There sure are a lot of women who nag their husbands, and there are plenty of men who are a bit, erm, slobby. |

I took some marketing courses years ago, and from what I can recall, the industry profiles people. I believe the word demographics is used. Anyhow, there are patterns of behavior that have been studied by sociologists and recorded. The marketing company's use that information to launch their ad campaigns. Yes, it is often un-politically correct, but that's not their concern. Their concern is to sell you a product or service. Examples would be scents to make you more attractive, cars and homes to impress your neighbors and friends, the whole keeping up with the Jones's deal.....savvy marketers play on peoples insecurities and wants/fantasies. As far as objection, I have heard of a few companies being called on the carpet for using demeaning advertising gimmicks. I just don't recall the actual company names, at the moment. |

advertising is an issue of cost against profit. they are trying to sell products by identifying their target audience and being PC is of no use to them (unless being PC will sell their products) |

Stereotyping not always wrong and is usually accurate. Where there is smoke there is fire. You don't spend you time screening elderly caucasian women at airports, You spend you time screening young mid-eastern men...This is called common sense.. Politically incorrect but the truth. |
