How long does a rabbits pregnancy last?
I have two rabbits at home (male+female) and I want them to have babies so that I could then sell them to people. My female rabbit doesn't like people at all, she seems so wild and I think that she would really take care of her own babies as she is very friendly towards other rabbits. My male rabbit is friendly towards other rabbits and people as well. Would it be appropriate to breed my two rabbits and then sell the little ones, just for my female rabbits own good.
I was 6 when me dad bred rabbits, which was 10 years ago 11 nearly. But I think they was pregnant for about 3 weeks
It takes 28 to 32 to days with them usually giving birth on day 30 to 31. Though if your female rabbit isn't very friendly then i wouldn't breed from her because her kits will all probably grow up that way so wont make very good pets.
31 days is the usualy time. Some rabbits will go a few days earlier or later depending on the breed or individual rabbit. If your bunny has not had her kits by day 35 then she is not pregnant. What sort of screening do you do for your homes? You need to make up care sheets for rabbits before you sell them and give new owners a bag of the food that you feed. You need to make sure the new owners have adequate housing and are well versed in bunny care.... It's not a case of breed them and sell them if you are responsible.
About 32 days
around a month (28-32 days)
Rabbits take 28-32 days to have babies. Normally they have them on the 30th day and they really never take longer than 32 days. The meanness could be due to hormones or it could be due to being near another rabbit and getting constantly pestered. Breeding a rabbit sometimes causes the mother to become nicer once she has had the babies. Honestly, I would probably recommend against breeding your rabbits. I get the impression that you have a lot that you need to learn about rabbits yourself. The length of a rabbit's gestation period is basic Rabbits 101. A person that breeds and sells them should be somewhat knowledgable about rabbits before doing so, so they can pass down good instructions to the people that buy rabbits off of them. I would recommend joining a local 4-H rabbit club (depending on your age) or the ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders Association). There is also a good rabbit book you can read called Rabbit Production. The newest version of it is the 8th edition. You can probably find it in your local library.
28 to 34 days go ahead breed her, during the pregnancy she will be very hormonal and rude but afterwards a lot of my does(girl rabbits) got nice, just make sure she has a nesting box some straw and she should do the rest and make sure she pulls fur!! but because i assume its her first litter you have to start watching her about the 28 day and put the nesting box in that day, first litters usually go wrong because the rabbit is inexperienced. make sure the temp does not got over 85 in the area where she is or under 75 just make sure they dont over heat in the fur if it starts to get hot where the rabbits are located take some of the moms fur out around them so they have some air and so they don't get overheated. I breed and show lionhead rabbits. I breed my doe on lets say a Saturday and Sunday. THis gets me nice size litters of about 7 kits. My does kindle on the 30th day after i breed them. I have had some also deliver more the next day. Go to some sites before breeding. To some it seems simple, but breeding rabbits is extremly hard. You must keep excelent records.
About a month give or take, put the nest box in about a week before the due date =]
Don't breed rabbits. You need to get them neutered for their own health. Breeding carries risks for them and you may end up with a pile of dead rabbits. There are thousands of rabbits out there looking for homes, don't make matters worse for them by breeding more and taking away good homes.
PLEASE don't breed your rabbits. There are hundreds and thousands of homeless rabbits being euthanized in shelters every day because there are not enough good homes -JUST like cats and dogs. PLEASE keep your rabbits apart. They can have 1-20 babies every 31 days. There is NO profit in being a responsible breeder, and there is NO need for more pets in this world. If you have free time, please go spend it at the animal shelter. Maybe if you go see how many animals die without homes, you won't try to turn a quick buck pumping out more animals. Send people to rabbit rescue - www.rabbit.org if they want a pet rabbit. Plus, if you don't spay and neuter your bunnies, you will end up over run with rabbits AND having people who want to eat them or use them as snake food trying to buy bunnies from you. Your female will calm down and like people if you SPAY her - they are extremely hormonal, and often agressive if left unspayed. PLEASE spay your rabbit before she gets uterine cancer (the rates are as high at 80% by 3-4 years old! Visit www.Qrabbit.com to learn more about bunnies, and PLEASE spay and neuter your pets.
Most domestic rabbits are pregnant for about 30-32 days. I raise New Zealands and they can go for 33 days for first litters. I've noticed my does tend to be a little mean until they've had babies. Bucks are generally friendly natured. You may need to find a pet shop to buy them, I sell rabbits myself for pets and meat and it's not a business you can rely on. Spring time and early Summer are when I sell the most rabbits. Be careful and make sure you can sell them before you end up with a bunch of rabbits that you can't get rid of! There are lots of good books at the library you can get to give you some excellent pointers on raising rabbits.
