If paganism at least had one As in, Paganism doesn't have
one God or one path, it's a
bunch of them.
So if Paganism was the belief
in say Zeus, plus the other
gods that you choose, would it
have survived the Pagan
Holocaust?
yep, coined it myself. :)

It is useless to speculate on the past. It is very hard to say what may or may not have happened. I don't think the amount of gods had anything to do with paganism demise. And, besides, there were more survivors than you think, many who believed in the old ways simply went underground, Christians in public and pagans in private. It is still that way in many places around the world. |

The various segments of Paganism did survive, at least to a degree. However, due to the 'holocaust' as you say on the Pagans, no I do not believe that it would have made a difference. Christianity is all about one god only. Even if your theory was a possibility, I do not believe that it would have done any good. |

It did survive, it became Christianity. Modern Christianity contains an awful lot of the pagan beliefs that were common in the Roman pantheon and the pantheons recognised by Rome. Christianity, via Paul, became another Roman saviour god cult. It survived by gaining the patronage of the Roman Emperor, Constantine, after which it became the state religion at the expense of the existing pantheon. Pagan shrines to Jupiter hold images very similar to the icons and paintings from modern Christianity. |

Zeus was the "father of all the gods" in Greek mythology. His counterpart in Roman mythology was Jupiter. These are among the reasons that you need to expand your horizons! Paganism still survives in many forms as it has throughout history. I know of no "Pagan Holocaust", I am sure that you coined that phrase. Gods live as long as someone continues to worship and/or acknowledge them, beyond that, they do not exist. |
