How can I learn about eclectic I'm curious and I want to know
if there are any good books
out there about eclectic
paganism. I feel in my heart
that I want to follow a
spiritual path and I've read
about many traditional pagan
paths and about wicca, but it
just doesn't seem quite right.
I have searched for
information about eclectic
paganism on the web and I
can't find ANYTHING. Any help
from your own knowledge of
suggestions for books or
websites would be greatly
appreciated.

Perhaps there aren't any books on it because "eclectic" paganism would pretty much be "make it up as you go along". Keep looking, though, and soon the path that is right for you will appear. |

wouldn't it be a contradiction in terms if there was a book about "eclectic paganism?" i mean "eclectic paganism" just means you take bits and pieces out of many different forms of paganism to form your own truth. writing a book about that would totally defeat the purpose. |

You learn about various paths of paganism and learn everything you can. Then incorporate what works for you. There's no easy way. Walking your own path is hard. Book reccomendations: Drawing Down the Moon by Adler. Triumph of the Moon by Hutton. Real Witchcraft by Bonewits. Etruscan Roman Remains by Leland. The Book of Lies by Crowley. |

"Eclectic" means that you take some of this and some of that and mix it together for what feels right to you. There are no books written that cover this since it is different for everyone. Keep reading about the various pagan paths. Jot down in a diary or BOS (book of shadows) what 'feels' right to you, what 'calls' you whether it be deity, or ways of doing things, etc. Eclectic is fun because you can mix and match pantheons and rituals all you want, there is no 'wrong way' to do anything, it is all your way. |

You seem to be approaching eclectic paganism as some sort of specific religion, and it most definitely is not. Paganism is a term encompassing all non-Judeo-Christian religions: Hinduism, Wicca, Druidry, Voodoo, whatever. You can't generalize beliefs for all of these religions. You simply can't, because they are separate religions. Added to that is the adjective "eclectic" which means a collection of pieces from different sources. An eclectic pagan is a non-Judeo-Christian who has pulled together a personal spiritual system while borrowing from multiple sources. By definition, an eclectic pagan's practices do not fit the practices of a definable religion. Eclectic pagans therefore study lots of different source materials. |

Eclectic Paganism is whatever you want it to be. I consider myself an eclectic pagan, because I find any form of organised religion restrictive. I have a couple of books on Wicca, but most of my books are on pre-christian religions eg Celtic/Egyptian/Norse Mythology and Folklore. I believe the most important part of eclectic paganism is the ethical part. If someone does mix traditions or pantheons, they should be clear and up-front that what they are doing is not traditional. You can try googling "eclectic paganism" but I have found that most site claiming to be "eclectic" are just various watered down versions of wicca". |
