because the extreme brutality of it, and the very short span of time it was in, and how many people were killed in that very short span. Rwanda is the product of a war. Auschwitz is the product of a megalomaniac sadistic man using eugenics/fear mongering as a means to control people. to truly understand the horrors of Auschwitz and the angel of death DR joseph mengela, these people were literally sent to a place. worked till they were useless then killed. others werent so lucky, as they had horrible botched "medical" experiments done on them, surgery with no anesthesia, frozen to death to see how much the body could withstand. chemicals injected into their eyes to try to change their color. sewn together while still alive, and some just sent straight to a furnace or a gas chamber, it truly was one of the worst atrocities ever commited. |

The comment about jews controlling the world is racist and shows your jealousy. The reason you hear more about the Jewish Holocaust is because of Hitler and the methods used to kill. Hitler is an infamous killer known to all. And the pictures of the starving Jews still burn in many minds. |

I think its the most Famous because every content was apart of it. The bombing of pearl harbor, Attack on Russia. Everyone was apart of it as with the other one everyone didn't get involved. |

Also because the awfulness of it was a secret for many years. It wasn't until the war ended and soldiers entered the concentration camps that the horror became known. Other atrocities (Rwanda) were on the TV as they were happening. |

Probably because it was the largest in scale and it incorporated the full weight of the state in conducting the holocaust. It was also intricately planned and carried out on an unprecedented scale by almost a whole nation. Perhaps the fact that the German's were regarded as an educated and civilised people it is interesting to see how they as a nation desceneded into all out genocide on an established people within their country. You could also argue that the holocaust was the most wide ranging of genocides. Not just one race or religion but masses of Jews, Poles, Czecks, Gypsies, Roma, Handicapped, Communists, Catholics, Protestants, Slavs etc, this again is unprecedented when compared to other genocides such as Rwanda/ Former Yugoslavia etc. On a side note to Jamal A I think your answer is quite insensitive, the question is asking why do we thing the Nazi Holocaust is the most famous, and i think your anti-western tirade detracts from importance of the question and subject at hand. Indeed many muslims died as a result but half of the world's Jewish population was wiped out, HALF in only six years!!! |

It was well documented and the jews have a good PR organisation It's often forgotten that jews were only one group affected by Hitler. There were many homosexuals. communists, gypsies and mentally disabled people killed in the holocaust. The first group to die in the gas chambers at Auschwitz were 600 Russian prisoners of war in September 1941 |

Well, I'm not sure about the number of how many died but I think that is one reason. Nearly six million jewish people. If you include all the other people who died it may total 17 million . I think the thing that made it so different was the way it was carried out. It was very well organized , systematic and efficient. The camps were planned and built for the distinct purpose of exterminating people while making the most them as usable labor until it wasn't worth keeping them alive. |

I think it is insensitive way of putting the question. It is the inhuman way of killing their people that angers most Jews and other people for that matter. So, it's only natural that they use their powerful arm on the media today to voice this. What i object to is that the same media that exposes the Holocaust, covers-up many other injustice's when it goes against their interests. Hitler massacred many muslims amongst others in Eastern europe & no mention of it..Also, the demonizing of simple nations & their people just because they are different. The Brain washing of the western public... prying on their ignorance AT A VERY YOUNG AGE (when most of the info he/she gets is from TV) is where this media is hypocritical. The other "holocausts" you talked about are way more brutal than the "Jewish Holocaust", but the Rwandans, Turks, or Russians don't control American media or hollywood. |
