The holocaust killed about six million Jewish people, as well as an untold number of polish disabled, gypsies, gay men, and Jehovah's witnesses.Placing the amount of murder victims at around 11 million. Isn't that awful enough for you? No? How about the fact that German doctors were allowed free rights to experiment on these people, sometimes using animal parts and no anesthesia? Offering small toys and treats to children to lure them into the deathly gas chambers!To this day, people in some parts of the world refuse to believe that this event actually took place. Out of fear? Guilt? They should go there, to Auschwitz and Natzweiler, and put their hands on the still ashy oven floors. Such horror! |

Ok, take Millions of people and lock them up in concentration camps. Starve them till they are only a walking skeleton because they can still work. The rest old men and old women and all children strip them naked. Put them in a "shower" room that gases them to death. Pile their carcasses in mass graves or pile them huge stacks and burn their bones. Put them in oven and try to burn all trace. Clean out the ovens to get to the gold they had in their teeth. Those that were fat, are rendered to make soap. Many were skinned to make lampshades. The total dead OVER SIX MILLION..... In Jews alone. They tried to kill every Jew in Europe. Not to mention 50% of all gypsies, all the mentally ill, all the physically handicapped. They are still finding mass graves in Russia of murdered WWII victims of the Third Reich. Holocaust? Yes. |

The Holocaust was the extermination of 6 million jews in concentration camps in Germany during the second World War. Adolph Hitler hated the jews so he exterminated them. Many were gassed, others were shot, they were all tortured in various ways. And then killed and put into mass graves. When the allies came in and freed the remaining prisoners they were totally horrified by what they found. Sick and starving prisoners, and the sight of mass graves and stories of the torture by the German gestapo became known world wide and many pictures of these atrocities circulated to the outside world. People were horrified and there are probably no words for what was done to these people. That is why the Holocaust was a "Horrible Thing". |

It was horrible because not only did some humans think that they were higher because of their religion, they did something about it. Jews were believed to be lower than other religions, and Hitler wanted them all dead. They treated them like we treat insects today, like they were a pest problem. They took them to places to poison them with gas and they only feed them nettle soup and bread, sometimes even nothing! They made them work until they starved or died and if you were sick, they would kill you. Jews had to work long, long hours and they couldn't complain. If you had a baby, they'd kill it, and if you were a kid, they'd kill you. The German army (led by hitler) worked hard to kill many Jewish people, and succeeded in killing millions of them. They threw babies out of hospital windows down to trucks and they piled bodies in giant holes to bury them. It was just a horrible time. No matter how important, rich or high ranked you were, if you were jewish, you were dead, and if not, you suffered. Many poeple lost their families and suffered more than you can immagine. Try eating one piece of bread for a whole week. Taste nettle soup. It was horrible, and if you even looked unhealthy, you'd die as well, even if you weren't. Jews had to line up, and they would be inspected, if the german didn't think they looked healthy, they died. It was a time when they tried to exterminate people for a (in my opinion) very stupid reason. I think this might've been even worse than black/white prejudism, because it wasn't even a different race. I hate black and white prejudism, of course, I'm white and my mom's black, and I love her, so of course I'm against it, but if red or orange men came to you, wouldn't you be prejudice too? We're not even talking about looking different, just being of a different religion, and they did nothing bad. Hitler didn't care if you were good or evil, if you were Jewish, you died. That's why it was such a horrible time. If you wanna find out more about this, read a book written by David, a boy that actually lived through the Hollacoust, it's called David's story...or something like that...I don't remember well, but you can also watch the Devil's arithmetic. The Holocaust is also a good book to read. |

The 'overwhelming' part of the Holocaust was: 1. the scale of death on a high volume.... extermination on an unprecedented level. 2. state-sponsored genocide 3. the ultimate in man's inhumanity against their fellow man. Sure there were deaths in other eras of history, even more deaths than the Holocaust, but none attained the notoriety of Hitler's Germany. To achieve mass extermination took the efforts of all walks of life, from the train men who hauled the human cargo to the contractors who built the crematoria...and everyone in-between. |
