How can I get direct heat on a sebaceous cyst inside the ear?
My husband has a sebaceous cyst in his ear canal, and I'd like to try using heat to treat it. How can I get DIRECT heat on the cyst specifically? I can use a heating pad, but I'm thinking "concentrated" heat right on the cyst. Any ideas? He has been seen by an ear doctor, and will have the cyst removed next month under General Anesthesia, but if I can maybe avoid this by home treatment, I'd like to. Thanks.
Light a match.
go to the doctor, right away!
Use a blow dryer, but intermittently. Don't harm the skin around it. Just use it to keep the cyst dry and clean, not to burn it off. :)
how about using a blow dryer on low heat? sometimes its recommended for ear aches
Try running hot (not burning) water in the ear...best if he dose it while he is showering
A warm to hot, wet washcloth is your best bet, held over the outside of the ear. It will warm the entire ear and will also warm the ear canal by radiating the heat to the area.
I don't think I'd mess around with anything inside the ear canal. Call the doctor. There may be some sort of topical ointment that will help, or the doctor may want to lance it. Not something you should mess with at home.
Put a Q Tip in really hot water (not too hot. You don't want a burn.) then stick it in your ear.
There's an old time way to reduce the pain of the inner ear. It works on ear infections and sebaceous cysts! Get a cigarette and light it, then puff the smoke directly into his ear canal. The smoke is warm and will heat it effectively to reduce his pain. Good Luck
Get a smooth pebble, the size you need to fit in his ear. Heat the pebble up in hot water and test it on your wrist. Wrap it in stretchy gauze or a light material and make sure it won't fall out and get stuck in the ear. Then stick it in and hope for the best. The smaller the pebble the quicker it will cool down. Try a little tea tree oil on the gauze too, that stuff is great for things like that.
If you have meds that can be put in his ear, take a q-tip run it under hot water, place the meds on the q-tip if it's liquid and put it in his ear. But only to the point where he can stand the heat.
Try warming baby oil or mineral oil in a teaspoon with a lighter or match, or in a small container in the microwave, then pour it into the ear. It will get heat to the cyst, but I STRONGLY suggest checking with your doctor before doing this.
try taking a washcloth and getting it wet. then put it in the microwave for a few seconds. this will generate some steam effect. hold the washcloth on his ear and that heat will help. I have had one ear infection in my life and this was how i worked with the pain. Has he been to a doctor to see about this. an antibiotic may help relieve the cyst. I had ones under my arm that i took antibiotics for.
Emily, as you know that ear is one of the most important organ not only of special senses i.e., hearing but also deals with balance and direction etc, Be kind to yourself and to your husband and take him to your doctor who can take care of the problem and if needed can refer him to the ENT surgeon, please do not try anything stupid,
