How do I address a bishop in a formal letter ?
The bishop is a family member of a close friend , I expect to meet the bishop and I have a request ( I am roman catholic ) .
Your Grace.
Hi! Bish?
The correct address for a Bishop is "Your Grace". You do not use 'dear', simply begin the letter, "Your Grace". Alternatively, some people use the style 'Dear Bishop X", which is more modern. However, I feel it is also less formal. Cheers :-)
Bishop X
Definitely Your Grace

your excellence.
Your Grace is definitely the correct way since it is a formal letter. When you meet much will depend on how well you are aquainted with him. If perhaps you have known him prior to going in to religious life he may well waver all formalities and tell you to address him in the manner you previously did.
