Is belly dance really good for I want to lose weight and I
heard that belly dance is
great for weight loss and it
makes you feel femme. Has
anyone actually been seriously
overweight[at least 30 pounds
overweight] and started it and
get great results? Any
recommendations?
By seriously I don't mean like
morbidly obese. I just don't
like hearing from those people
who are 120 pounds and say
they are fat.

Um.... No definitely not. Look at the fat women who do belly dancing. It will tone as long as you don't have excess weight. Cardio and is the only good way to loose weight. |

It all depends on who the instructor is for the belly dancing class you're going to sign up for. If you want results, join a class where you're constantly moving from the moment you step in, a few times a week. It's a good way to stay active, get toned, and lose weight. You're using nearly all of your muscles, and it gets your heart pumping. I've taken a few classes, but never really had time in my schedule to stick with it. The few times I actually tried learning were really fun. You know it's working when you feel sore in places you'd never expected to be sore. Salsa classes are fun as well. |

It can help with losing weight since anything that gets you moving and keeps you moving will help you burn more calories. If you practice regularly at home, in addition to your classes, you'll get better results. You are more likely to stick with something that you enjoy doing, and it doesn't feel like "exercise". It does help me accept and embrace who I am as a woman. :-) |
