I wasn't aware of such ban, but I think the reason behind it is it has to be an Arabic dictionary name. at the family we had the same issue with Arabic names modified a little bit. so they are trying to keep it Arabic which is not fair for minorities. There's ton of resources about the Amazigh culture, all what you have to do is a search ;) |

There are many books on Amazigh culture, the best ones believe it or not from what I found were written by Westerners. Yes it is illegal in Morocco to have Amazigh names. The government is trying hard to promote an Arab identity even though we are not Arabs, not racially, culturally, ethnically or historically. Arabs conquered our lands, made many slaves and forced there religion, language and script on us. Amazigh political parties are banned and our historical places and celebrations are turned into tourist attractions. |
