How many 50 cent coins are there in the box?
The number of 50-cent coins is 3/8 the number of 20 cent coins in a coin box. There are twice as many 20 cent coins as $1 coins in the box.The total value of the coins in the box is $355.
50 Cents : 3x 20 Cents: 8x 1$ coins : 4x 0.5*3x + 0.2 * 8x + 1*4x = 355 7.1x = 355 X = 50 Number of 50 cents 3x = 150
Let number of $1 coins be 4x Then number of 20 cent coints = 8x Number of 50 cent coins = 3x Total value = 355 = 4x + 1.6x + 1.5x = 7.1x x = 50 Thus there are 150 50 cent coins in the box
Of course, the question doesn't specify that there are no other denominations of coins in the box. So it could equally well be 3 50-cent coins, 8 20-cent coins, 4 $1 coins and 3479 10-cent coins. :)
Let there are 8x 20 cent coins in the box. So,there are 3x 50 cent coins & 4x $1 coins in the box. The total value of the coins are $(0.2*8x+0.5*3x+1*4x)=$7.1x By question, 7.1x=355 or,x=355/7.1=3550/71=50 So the required number of 50 cent coins in the box is=3x=3*50=150[Answer]
Let the number of 20-cent = x Then 50-cent coins = 3x/8 and 1 dollar coins = x/2 Therefore x/5 + 3x/16 + x/2 = 355 or 16x + 15x + 40x = 355 or 71x = 28400 so x = 400 50-cent coins = 3x/8 = 3×400÷8 = 150
