What would one dollar in 1940 be equivalent to today?
In the movie Andy Hardy Meets Debutante (1940), the main character boasts that, with eight dollars, he could not only afford a meal at the fanciest club in town, but he could buy the establishment if he wanted. I was just wondering... after many bouts of inflation, about how much would that be in modern times? How would you perform that "conversion"?
One dollar bill in 1940 would be 90-120 dollars maybe because of this economy now a little more recently . In the 1920's-30's Ford was paying factory workers 3.00-5.00 dollars a day and that was more that the average salary back then for a worker for a week . That would be like 350-600 dollars per day now that is like doctors or lawyers type salaries . Actually they were making 5.00 per day before the depression they had to cut back to save the workers jobs there people .
$1.00 in 1940 would be equal to $15.28 today. http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cp icalc.pl
