Abebooks.co.uk (or .com) has some of the missing books you're after. I think I know the one's you mean, my employer has something similar. The dates are different to each book, but check it out anyway. Here's the link: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/serv let/SearchResults?bi=0&bx=off& ds=30&sortby=3&sts=t&tn=the+sp ectator&x=99&y=15&yrh=1800 They're really quite cheap, £5-9 each. Not bad...
'The Spectator' was a daily paper, first produced in 1711 by Joseph Addison and Richard Steele and originally running to 555 numbers. All these issues were collected together and published in seven volumes, with an eighth which contained some later 1714 issues. These eight volumes were reissued several times during the eighteenth century, and there were also later editions. The British Library has several versions. Just to be confusing, there's also the weekly magazine called 'The Spectator', which was first published in 1828 and is still going today. Boris Johnson used to be the editor.
