in William Blake's lifetime, (1757 - 1827) were most people protestant or catholic?

catholic, just like today

England was overwhelmingly
protestant.
But industrialisation and
urbanisation were eroding
church going.
The fastest growing
denomination was the
Methodists, with their mission
to the industrial areas.

There have always been more
Catholics than Protestants
over all. Now if you limit

The World, Catholic.

Protestant, but the world as a

Catholic. England had moved
toward Anglicanism, which is
inbetween Catholic and
Protestant. Anglicans have
Sees (The See of Saint
Augustine), Saints, and
ritual. So, I consider the
Church of England to be as
catholic (small c) as the
Orthodox church, and the Roman
Catholic church.
